The Riverfront Mall in New Orleans not only boasts its own Cafe Du Monde that’s inside the mall where it’s nice and toasty, but it also has a nifty little shop upstairs called U Name It. They make all sorts of personalized signs and trinkets, but my favorite product there is the personalized state license plate. These use psuedo-exact license plate background replicas. Check out the photo below for my Texas driver’s license plate replica that I had made with an obvious homage to Back to the Future. I also had one of these done in a Pennsylvania plate. I suspect that the next time I’m at the mall, I’ll be making a set of Minnesota and California plates. Fake license plates are cool. Yes, I’m easily amused. You want to know who isn’t amused my them? The police. I accidentally left the plate pictured below on my car after I finished a DeLorean gig. I was followed by Smokey for several minutes, although I didn’t realize why until I got home. Lucky, huh?

You can try calling up U Name It at the phone number I have listed 504-525-2040. You will need lots of patience, however. I get either a busy signal or the phone just rings with no answer everytime I call. They don’t appear to have a Web site, unfortunately. The shop is located at the top level of the Riverfront Mall in an open shop area. Check the map when you get to the mall, perhaps? I like their work so much that I’ve decided they deserve the Super Genius Seal of approval. They may also receive the Super Genius Polar Bear of approval in the event I can’t find them a seal because seals are so slippery and whatnot.
