for every beginning…

I just got back from an excrutiating leg workout. When my trainer gets me to where I wonder if I can walk again… that’s a good workout. I have no idea why I like this kind of punishment now. The benefits of being able to wear a t-shirt and not look like a little scrawny girl certainly help. Not that I’m not in the market for scrawny girls. Please, scrawny girls, feel free to contact me. Now that that’s out of the way, let me take you on a little PG-rated journey into what’s led up to this thus far. Back in early May 2003 I was pretty upset with my weight and bad eating habits. I decided to switch to high protein, low carb, non-fat foods. It worked. I started when I weighed 185 and after ninety days I’d dropped down to 155. A month later I leveled off at to 150 which I’d maintained until the middle of April when I started working out (for the first time ever). Here are the never before seen progression photos for that first initial weight loss period last year:

I swear, I’m wearing a towel in those photos. It turns out that it was a hand towel, but hey, I digress. I got a different haircut in that second photo. The first hairstyle I’ve had forever. It was getting stale, anyway. Embrace the recession, Bush said. Fine. No more political humor. Next let’s take a look at my workout progression. These first shots show the progress I’ve made in 45 days. You can tell my legs are getting more muscle mass and my biceps and triceps are getting larger.

Next up are the profile shots. You can really see a some major difference from this angle. By the way, I’m not tensing up to impress you. I’m doing it to show where there’s definition. If you don’t like that explanation, then I’m tensing because maybe a ninja might hop through my window and I’d have to go kick his ass.

I am missing a profile shot from May 15, 2004 thanks to my camera battery dying just before I took the photo. As far as why I’m doing all of this? It was one of my New Year’s resolutions. Better late than never. I’m also planning to be Spider-Man for Halloween. No prosthetics for me, thank you. My inspiration is John Stone of JohnStoneFitness.com. I’d mentioned him back in a January 2004 blog entry and I’ve been following his progress. He actually was posting a new photo every morning. I’m not that dedicated. My ritual in the morning involves a good long pee, weighing myself, and taking my vitamins along with a Myoplex Carb Sense supplement. They say it’s Chocolate Fudge flavor. It’s really good once you get over the revulsive consistency. Is it watery? Is it gooey? I don’t know anymore. I just drink it. As far as my problem areas… I’ve still got a little pooch of belly fat that I’d like to work on eliminating. Hard to do that given my age but apparently something called Ab-Solved and Tight are just what I’m looking for. Now, if I’d only spend five minutes on Google to figure out what the hell they are.
