who you votin' for?

2004.01.27 18.32

Rebecca came up from Houston earlier this month to visit me in Chilly Philly. During her trip (and after I'd recovered from my Official Super Genius Annual Food Poisoning™) we visited Nocturne Nightclub where she proceeded to meet and greet people with no shyness whatsoever. I could only dream of being as extroverted. However, if you're hanging out with an extrovert, it becomes super easy to make new friends since all of the hard ice-breaking work is done for you. That would make an interesting take on the dating game if you could somehow hire a disinterested yet social third party extrovert to generate introductions to total strangers. Right now I use a disinterested third-party named Heinekin to open up my social opportunities. It's works cheap. Oh! That reminds me... Rebecca and a coworker of mine went clubbing one night. The last hour of the evening is a bit of a blur but I'd somehow made really nice with this girl and got a phone number. Unfortunately my RECORD button wasn't working and I have no recollection of the event whatsoever. Stupid Heinekin! Everyone was saying that I was on my game and everything. So, sadly, I'm still The Single Guy. Don't start calling me Jonathon Silverman.

Some of the other highlights of the Rebecca Visit™ included a trip to New York to see ''The Producers'' with original castmembers Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick. AWESOME! They are going to make a movie version with Nicole Kidman in the female lead. Eula... I'm ready for you. The downside was that the weather in New York was hovering at around 0 degrees (and I don't mean Celcius). So... very... cold. It wasn't much better the night before she left when we hit Pat's Cheesesteaks. Pat's has renovated the place a little bit... removing some of the old wooden siding and putting in nice backlit signs. The scary cover has been replaced and the trademark yellow lighting outside is gone. However they have yellow lights inside the kitchen, so it's still a part of the experience. The food was totally awesome, as usual. If I ever get into the situation where I have to have a last meal... I'm there.

I am behind on my New Year's resolutions. I have visited the comedy club that's near my place but I don't have any form of an act ready for open mic night on Wednesday. I will, however. I'm thinking about doing some writing for television. I need to get focused and do it. I haven't found the knob for focusing, yet. I think it's inside a panel somewhere. Dammit. I never read the instruction manual.

My car is so very filthy. Dirty. Squalid. It needs a bath. I've had it here since September 15, 2003. It hasn't been washed once. The problem is the inclement weather and the salt and the slush. I should just wait til' the next wave of snow dies down and bite the bullet. Other problems are putting me out of contention for pimping in that car. I accidentally opened the convertible top up while I had a t-shirt in the little area where the top folds into. Don't ask me what I was thinking when I put it there. I blame the crack. It totally F'ed up the super mysterious folding mechanism. I'm not in too much of a hurry to spend money to fix it as the freezing weather makes having your top down make you look like Captain Insane-O, so perhaps in the spring I will have that taken care of. Anyone want to donate Trim Shop services to the Super Genius? I can make a trade for my skillz.

Last but not least on today's lengthy update... I made a return trip to Circuit City in Wilmington, Delaware and bought a replacement video camera, as well as this little Sony digital camera. I'll give you a full product run-down on them on a dedicated page. No, really. I will! If you have the means, I highly recommend the Delaware. Tax free shopping. Mmmm.

I'm selling my Sony DCR-TRV230 camcorder on ebay. You should buy it. No, really.

newsfeeder fish

2004.01.08 9.35

When I was working for a client in Florida I got to do some work with a company that sold newsfeeds. I've found a couple of good source for free feeds, although they often go out of business when they realize their business models are wretched, unrealistic and poop-laden. Go figure. Here's a new one I haven't seen before. Philadelphia headline's are today's topic. If this doesn't work on your browser then get a decent browser. Ahem.

something to look forward to

This guy is an inspiration. Click on the link regarding body transformation and fitness and you'll be entertained by this guy's dedication. I think part of my goal this year is to be Spider-Man for Halloween -- only I won't be wearing any dinky prosthetics under the costume. You'll see.

I'm trying to work a bit and watch Alien Resurrection in Spanish. Aside from my omnipresent panic disorder and the minor distraction of the TV, I'm making good progress. I really like it when the commercials come on. Some of them are half in English and half in Spanish. Usually the voice over is translated, especially in the case of movie commercials. Nothing can compare to watching really bad episodes of Kojak translated into Czech. I'm making due, however.

hola 2004

2004.01.03 18.49

I'm working on two resolutions that I've been dragging my feet on for many, many years. Simply put, I plan to spend time here and also some time here. I can't figure out which one is more work. Hopefully they'll compliment each other. I don't want to jinx myself so that's all I'm saying about the subject. Moving on.

I walked around Old City yesterday and got my first taste of First Friday. This is where all the art galleries are wide open and encourage loud rich people to walk about the streets sipping wine door to door. I didn't bring any wine. I'd spent the day working on some prototypes for my next project and was already somewhat artistically drained. My mental state didn't help my pseudo-depression, either. I say pseudo because it comes and goes. I spent New Year's with a coworker of mine and her friends at the Consititution Center (see previous entries). The party was well done, the bar was well stocked, the people were interesting. I'd bought a nice suit from Banana Republic and was looking more than okay, all things considered. I still felt a bit empty, but I'll soon be remedying that (see my two resolutions in paragraph one). In the meantime... blah f'ing blah.
